Explore your potential new area
Before making any big decisions, take the time to explore the surroundings of your potential new home. Consider how far you will be driving to the nearest shop or supermarket, how much longer will your daily commute be, is there a good school or activities for the kids, are there walking tracks or parks nearby?
You also want to get a good feeling for how you like the town or area you will be moving to – an easy place to start is by talking to real estate agents, locals or checking out the nearest visitor information centre.
You don’t want to make the big move, only to realise you don’t love the area!
Hire a moving company, or enlist strong friends
Once you’ve locked in a new place to call home, it’s time to start organising all the moving details.
Starting with how you’re going to get all of your belongings to your new home. A moving company can make the big move so much easier – taking care of that heavy lifting and transporting your items.
Alternatively, if you have some helpful friends and family – you could also rope them into helping you get the job done.
Organise your connections
First time living rurally? Connections like electricity, gas and water might be different to what you’re use to. Take some time to research providers in your area to find the best options for your needs – if you’re moving far away from the nearest township you might even be required to have your own water and septic tanks. Make sure you are aware of these finer details before moving day.
Ideally you will have all of this sorted in advance, so you won’t have any worries come moving day.
Don’t leave your internet connection to the last minute…
